If we running that far below now I wonder how far behind it will be next year if there is limited amounts of fertiliser on farms.
If we have a wet cold Spring with late tern out to mop up a lot of excess silage from this season then next winter will be very expensive, the future cereal price hasn't carried fully over to cake price yet, fert will make silage or grazing expensive but still the cheepest form of cow food. Could well be a perfect storm if weather doesn't play ball.

Or we could have an absolute belter of a season, cows out in February dry days and nice warm wet nights to keep the grass growing… we’ll have so much grass we won’t need any cake 😉

Maybe expand that explanation a little @Sid the wet woke brigade may interpret it in a totally different way to me, they may think your inferring you'll reduce your level of debt 😉

If you hadn't got any debt
(investment-short term and long term loans , hp etc) a business could be going backwards but making a large profit.

Net worth is walking north, would like to be trotting or cantering.

No I think there is a great lethargy in UK dairy that means it's just not going to put its foot down as milk prices go up.

A couple of anecdotes.

Two dairy farmers left their supermarket aligned meeting and said we were the youngest suppliers 15 years ago we are still the youngest today. Expansionist attitudes shrink as you get older.

National dairy recruitment agency today. Farmer had 600 cows 8 polish staff. Now has 3 polish staff and solution is 350 cows.

My cow numbers are down by 10% to make life easier and a higher milk price may make keeping that easy life more possible.

I think we can all repeat similar stories but I can't tell you of someone planning on adding 20cows let alone 200.
