Milk Price Tracker

I keep sensible Holstein Friesians .Annual average approx [email protected] 3.35 protein. On a Glanbia Cheese contract, low constitiuents make a low price even worse and seasonality on top makes it depresssing
We are on a cheese contract too , and that was what I was getting at , I suppose. We are 30 % Brown Swiss and the rest Holstein , and I usually make the cows eat some silage and straw / molasses , but its time consuming , expensive and hit and miss depending on the weather !! Worth it in long run but when you have spent all winter in the cold working ,a day like today makes you feel like relaxing:rolleyes:

I agree! I have almost given up on good solids in spring milk anyway. There is a fine line between the cost of feeding silage and getting better solids even with a decent milk price. It still pees you off though when you get your NML results

Sorry if this topic is not quite in line with the milk price tracker thread.I suppose what I am getting at is the "take home" price for a lot of us this spring will be much lower than our individual headline contract price

A dairy currently paying an EXTREMELY low price has offered its producers a 0% loan in the form of an extra 6ppl on their milk cheque. Paid back when "the job gets better".

Anybody else heard this?

roughly translated to ....
we are making a sh!t load of money out of you at the moment and dont want to lose too many producers , then when the job gets better we will pay you 6ppl less and carry on making sh!t loads of money out of you

It's a bit like the feed merchants who extend credit to there farmers for a few months , they then know they can charge the farmer what they like for cake knowing he can't afford to move.
This dairy are paying a sh!t price and so they will lend you 6ppl of your money safe in the knowledge that when the job recovers they can carry on paying a sh!t price as the farmer can't afford to pay to leave due to the sh!t price , Brilliant !

I sincerely hope that when the job recovers and contracts are available farmers have long memories and don't carry on supplying who ever offers the best price on the day regardless of how they behaved in the past .
I was talking to a farmer who was getting 12p for the first 20 days of may and june and so he has cut back over 500kg of cake per day , grassed down all the whole crop and basicly cut costs and production to the bone , the problem is on the same tanker will be farmers getting 28p who will won't be cutting back and thus allowing milk to be bought for 12p . Every dairy should be made to pay one pooled price and that way supply would respond to the market and stop this abuse . There are a lot more farmers not on 28p than on it and ultimately have the power should they choose to use it once markets recover

Any body getting good fat and protein of any particular dairy cake with cows out on grass? I know the basic theory,HDF cake in spring, moving on to a higher starch cake as the summer goes on, but I only seem to get 3.8 fats and 3.3 proteins as a rule
Cows doing well here , prob av 29 ltr since went to grass.17% Parlour cake av 4kg/hd tmr silage straw plus 3 kg/he 16% blend.

But in extracting their money they could well bankrupt him or put him a difficult position with his bank , yes it may take them time but most will stick with the rep giving the credit rather than take the risk .

Yes, your probably right, I suppose with a fair few cows you'd soon run up a fair slate.
