Milk Price Tracker

Dear First Milk Member

Milk price to reduce by 0.5 ppl from February 2020

It is with regret that I am writing to inform you that our member milk price will be reduced by 0.5ppl from February 1, 2020 on a liquid standard litre basis. This means that our liquid standard litre price for February will be 26.50ppl and our manufacturing standard litre will be 27.38ppl, both including our member premium.

During the course of 2019 we made good progress on our relative milk price, providing a degree of stability as dairy markets and returns weakened.

Our ability to deliver a stronger relative milk price has been achieved through improved business performance, delivering a solid underlying performance bolstered by our strong trading performance, improving our milk price relative to others.

The underlying business continues to perform well, however, as we now look ahead into 2020, we need to make this price adjustment to ensure that we do not pay out more in the future than we are able to return from our markets.

We fully recognise that this will be unwelcome news. We have worked hard during the year to deliver the best return possible in a challenging market. Rest assured, in 2020 we will continue our relentless focus to further drive business improvement – by driving efficiency and capturing greater value – so that we can continue to make progress in the future.

If you have any questions, then please do not hesitate to contact your Member Council representative or call the Membership Team on 0141 847 6800.

Very Disappointed, I think this gives out the wrong message, and they will all try to push prices down through the flush .

Still way behind the big knobs, but an increase all the same

It's not as if they can't afford it......

Meadow Foods, one of the UK’s largest dairies and leading supplier of value added ingredients to the food industry, has reported a pre-tax profit for the year to Mar’19 of £25.6m (£22.0m 2018) on a turnover of £456m (£427m 2018).

FFS - i was getting 22p/litre back in 1994/5, and, according to some, dairy farmer's "are the one's making money"
Ah those were the days, fuel, electric and insurance were peanuts too

How many litres do meadow have in a year? Just wondering how much profit per litre they are making.

Their website counter reckons around 507m since April 2019. 650m litres off 650 producers is also quoted. Less producers now though I guess, as they culled a good few.
