1 - How much will the consumers pay?
2 - How higher does the farmgate price need to be before enough people put some extra cows on?

1 is irrelevant imo. It’s all about 2 for me and I’m not sure, bar the few usual hero’s it’s even possible to pay enough

1.The consumer is already baulking at some food costs.

2. Labour could be more of a constraint than anything else.

Veg growers have cut plantings due to worries over staffing going forward.

A few baking groups on fb are moaning about the price of butter but what do you replace that with? Some of these spreads are shocking what they contain.

No, not planned, more enforced,10% less cows, giving less milk, farm is massively overstocked, culled some cows rather than milking on in March, but we went TB free last week, so another 60 days and IF the store cattle pass the PM, then the de stock will occur rapidly. Cow numbers will rebuild this autumn from heifers, then I only have to worry, do I have enough silage next year to feed them?!

I think there's going to be allot of destocking going on, especially as we've still had no rain in a while and the grass is all going yellow.. We're due the test letter any day to book ours in. If we pass we'll also be putting a load of stores in the market! We're overstocked also, become increasingly difficult to move calves so we're now rearing and selling as stores, but do now need to move some out!
