Milk ureas.

Been on a farm walk today @Dragon discussing NIS pellets. I used them before about 3 years ago and they complimented lush grass very well but not had access with current supplier until this year but ill have 8 tons and feed according to grass stage and ndf levels.

At 0.35 they will be burning flesh of their backs and loosing embryo's, so Tim Davies from Kite told us at a meeting just 2 weeks ago !
Try to give them some straw may be? Should be nearer 0.20
Don't think that applies to grass since so much of the protein is degraded the cow won't necessarily be getting enough protein to drive on milk.

We talked about this today very misleading. Take soya hulls or palm kernel. This naturally is the shell of seed pods. There very existence is to be indigestible and protect the seeds and as a result being high ndf isn't the full picture. Take NIS pellets or straw this is a forage and different type of ndf. Much more beneficial type of ndf.

Cf or crude fibre is another one.

My blend is 22.5 ndf.

Ok, so what NDF levels are your fresh grass samples?

10th May last year 38.4 ndf. Covers would be higher than you would graze. About 3 weeks growth on ryegrass. Ndf's fluctuate and thus is where having 8 ton dumpy bags of NIS will suit me. Can add a kilo On top zero grazed grass as and when it's needed dependant on grass stage.

By chance was this meeting selling NIS pellets

It was......I prefer to get a bit more ndf naturally from the grass if I can. It's cheaper. But at times butterfats can be hard work. I like grain maize and NIS has its place at times too.

15/08 it was 48.1 ndf.

Is it the case that once your urea goes over 0.20 the cow is wasteing protein which possibly suggests she has too much protein in the diet so you could lower the protein in the ration?

Yes that's similar to what sort of results we get have just dropped the cake from 18% protein to 14% protein which has brought price back by about £15 a tonne
