the cows are having a fair wallop of fresh grass, @26% protein, we have dropped protein out of the ration now, apart from the cake as I can't change what's in the bin. We will turn out tomorrow, so increasing the fresh grass even more.

What levels are people happy with, I understand( correct me if I am wrong) that ureas of 0.35 and higher are not good. But what can you do to control it? Or am I worrying about nothing?

I've always been under the impression thats not true yes it's wasteful but not detrimental grass fed cows always seem to have the best fertility. If this is based on new research id be very interested to read it.

Unless your putting 10kg of 21% into them I wouldn't worry about it especially as you have finished serving. If there at grass then they tend to balance themselves IMO

Absolutely no evidence for embryo toxicity and urea in live cows.

Worth noting that it is the protein in the diet that drives yield and you can push cows into negative energy balance - that part is true.

Few of the first to calve aren't having any cake now, but will just suck it and see.

Perhaps not sbeet nuts, the grass has a lot of sugar in it, combine that with the sugar beet, maybe a bit fizzy.

Best of my knowledge no significant amount of sugar remaining in sugar beet nuts
