Batch pasteuriser or cont flow ?
Batch you could fill it direct from thecows
Cont flow you probably need a holding tank
Depends also on when the tanker comes . & your layout
Whichever way is easiest to operate,

Small volumes so a batch pasteurizer is the call of the day. Just trying to suss out how to direct a couple of hundred litres to a separate tank or direct to the pasteurizer without disrupting the milking routine.

We just welded a stainless tap in the line after the filter but before the plate cooler. Then just run the required amount straight in to the batch pasteuriser, obviously got to stand there and watch it but doesn’t take long depending how fast the milks coming from the parlour! That way you’re heating it up in the pasteuriser from like 35’C rather than the 5’C it would be from the bulk tank

Should have said we only put one tap T’d in to the line, didn’t put another one in to stop it going straight on through the plate cooler as it normally would. Still seem to get enough flowing out in to the pasteuriser

id direct it straight to the pasteuriser then it’s one less thing to clean.we were lucky to just take the elbow off the last corner into the tank and drill a hole through the wall and attach a straight joiner through the wall .

Get a 3 way valve in the milk line. Then you can direct the milk to tank or pasteuriser. Bit of mental arithmetic while you are milking will tell you when you are close to 200 litres.

Thanks, theres a lot of ideas here I could use. What way do buffer tanks on robot farms work ? Presumably they hold a small volume for a set time and then automatically dump back to main tank?

Usually set so the tank gives a "finished wash " signal to empty the buffer tank.

In our case we use the raw milk holding tank in the processing shed as the buffer tank.
Initially worked fine with the "tanker driver " switch on the CRS box. Then Lely altered the software so the max time to buffer tank was 2 hours which knackered our arrangement. Handy thing with that was there was a record of how many litres had gone to the buffer tank
Needed a bit of rewiring to create a seperate manual change over switch.
