Milking with a Generator

It is surely not cheaper to use a generator?
Be careful as it is dirty electricity and a neighbour totally cooked his circuit boards which made milking a whole lot harder than the original power cut.

I think a getset will give a more stable supply than a tractor genny.

Just make sure you get a water cooled one so you can get hot water for free(ish), there's around 2kw of heat available for every 1kw of electric so plenty for washing plant etc, might even have enough heat a house :D

How much kva would you reckon on a single bot and tank cooling? Water heated on demand by gas.
If your running a Genny have the hot water off that, I've got a 300l tank and a 30kva it soon gets it up to heat.

Don't buy a gas water heater , hot water will be free(ish) there's a bit of plumbing and I think the tank was £500or 600

Probably no use to anyone that reads this, but around here, if the milking is always diesel powered, then the cooling is done with a reefer, as in a Thermoking, or Carrier refrigeration unit off a semi trailer as we call them. Might consider powering the refrigeration compressor and vacuum pump off the diesel, and everything else off mains power, or generator.

I have a Generator as a backup to run my yard (2 robots and everything else that is going on), I think the Generator was 130 KvA 3 phase. My mains is 50KVa 3 phase and runs everything just fine. Sometimes I would run the generator say for 2 days just to keep it going, I would say the diesel is nearly twice as expensive as the electric the last time I counted.
