The best advice available? Open to interpretation somewhat I think. If she does not feel that the advice is "the best available" what then? I think proving that this advice was the best available at the time, or not, could be something of a problem.

Not trying to put words in your mouth, merely removing your foot so as to allow them to be more plainly understood.

Making up something I never said and arguing against it may be enjoyable, but it's not really useful in any way.

'...locking in preventative measures...' which has been done via the Surrender Act... doh! And which is why there is now no reason not to have a GE... doh again! But it counts for nothing if a Government with a majority comes in and is against it, and is unnecessary if a Government with a majority comes in and supports it - so where is the argument for not having a GE now?

Surrender Act? What childish nonsense, although as the PM is also acting like a schoolboy I suppose I shouldn't critisize his followers too much for copying his infantile rhetoric. It's more than a little ridiculous however to be using war terminology towards a group of allies who we supposedly wish to have a friendly and productive future relationship with.

As for the general election, last I checked parliament is current prorogued by the governments own choice, and the government is being taken through the courts to find out if they lied directly to the sovereign. Why should the opposition do this lying government any favours?

What a ridiculous position to take.
You don't take into account at all, that remainers hold the status quo.
Where as the leave camp, in a 52/48 loss position, would still be striving to win something that is not had.
Brilliant, leave could hold as many refs as possible until you get the result you like, there’s an idea. Hypocrisy and democracy...?

And had it been a vote remain then Im pretty sure Leavers would have (not) been shouting "respect the democratic will of the people Nige" as Nige ran around shouting "its too close a call, remainers didnt know what they were voting, and now we know what remain means for so lets have a peoples vote to decide".

Utter trash.

Well done to those that brought the case or prorogation to their respective courts.
@yin ewe
Looks like the court took the view that put forward in #23.
After some of the disgraceful and unfounded comments that has been aimed at them perhaps some should take the time to reflect on their behaviour before taking to the keyboards in the future.

It's possible they might get lucky, but very, very unlikely.

@capfits It happens... however, if you look at the constitutional precedents the balance of probabilities was significantly against the appeal succeeding, that's what I based by guess upon. The Supremes chose the bill of rights instead of the 'unwritten' constitution upon which to base their decision, hence going the other way.

It is a political judgement, not in a party or Brexit sense, but in that it steers away from small c conservative incremental change in the constitution, and takes a large, clear step. I didn't expect that, and the earlier Miller case is example of why not. (y)

Nope.
The Judgement was basically that a Queens Speech doesn't require five weeks.
So does it take 3 weeks if so lets go for a prorogation tomorrow. Actually if you took out the normal party conferences then it was only 3 days at the start and 4 days at the end different to normal. For saying theres not been a Queens speech for 2 years there is quite a lot wrong with the country that really could do with legislation to sort out.

There weren't going to be any party conferences and therefore no recess. Parliament would of voted against it .........apparently.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
