Made enquiries about this variety. So much to like about it but unfortunately yield is about 7% lower than Crusoe according to AHDB data (88% vs 95%). The 20% lodging (untreated) would also be a worry. Might only make Gp2 also. I heard that it had been removed as a candidate variety at the breeders request but not sure if that is true or not.RAGT Goldfinch. BYDV and OWBM 'resistant'. Sensible disease scores. Candidate variety but looking to be 'on the list' this year. Unsure of the control yield percentage. Breadmaking.
Ah that’s good to know, thank you.Made enquiries about this variety. So much to like about it but unfortunately yield is about 7% lower than Crusoe according to AHDB data (88% vs 95%). Yeah, sure. It's here. https://projectblue.blob.core.windo...ter wheat candidate list (harvest 2024)-1.pdfAh that’s good to know, thank you.
I couldn’t find any AHDB yield data, and had the same 88% yield from Agrii trials. However, this was the BYDV infected yield (inoculated with the virus-I.e. to show what the BYDV resistance trait brings to the party) versus treated Skyfall…..so I’ve not found a straight forward treated yield comparison. I do suspect that RAGT would have been shouting from the rooftops if the candidate trials had shown decent yield results though.
Can you send me a link to the AHDB results please?
I’m trying a small area as a possible Crusoe replacement, hoping it makes Group 1 later this year. Zyatt is being dropped as a second wheat in favour of Extase, though Extase got yellow rust too this year.Quite a lot of talk abut Cheer , any good anyone.
That’s brilliant, thank you! That’s made my mind up!Yeah, sure. It's here. https://projectblue.blob.core.windows.net/media/Default/Imported Publication Docs/AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds/Varieties/Harvest Results 2024/2. Winter wheat candidate list (harvest 2024)-1.pdf
If it had made the group 1s and and if it had a yield on a par with Crusoe I think it would have taken a big market share. RAGT seem to be doing some great work in their breeding, they just can't seem to find a BYDV tolerant variety that is much good unfortunately.
