@pappuller was your rock salt British product from Cheshire or imported? Who was your supplier and do they deliver nationally?

Not sure where it was from but probably not the Himalayas !!!! Wfs is our local dairy suppliers and no they only travel Cheshire and surrounding area's.

"Himalayan' rock salt is actually mined in Pakistan!

I like it, its cheap and quite effective, you can leave a lump and forget about it without it completely dissolving too, I often leave a lump in each field and they last pretty well.

I've been getting on quite well with the MVF pressed licks, they're something like £4 each for 12kg and last for ages. You can hand them on a rope, or they dissolve quite quickly!

Worth taking forage samples too though.

If you are using Himalayan salt for the minereals it includes aside from the actual sodium chloride you are likely wasting your money. It's roughly 97% sodium chloride with tiny amounts of other minerals. It's not a balanced mineral pack for cows.

The clue is in the name: 'rock salt'.

We'd get through 2 or tonnes of rock salt a year and a similar amount of iodized salt.

Another fan of iodised salt licks (well the cows are). Cows will always go for these first too the point I don’t bother will lump rock salt any more.

Maybe a bit of reading up on here and a recommended trace elements bolus might be a good start.
