Don't expect any help from the plant breeders or chemical suppliers on that.
No but ADHB should be at the forefront of this type of stuff, but it ain't is it, just spanking money willy nilly anywhere, for example, Hands Free Hectare, ADHB gave them £100k and they never even enquired about the project, never even contacted HFH, didnt wish to have any reports and basically had zero contact afterwards. This is "our" cash that they spank seemingly without a care in the world

I would agree again, but things have to move up, and it has to be universal.

Sometimes things don’t just sort themselves out, not without cost, what will be the cost if our uk chicken and pig farmers go bust.?
And the EU ones get support?
What happens to the uk demand for my wheat?
what happens to its price then?

balance, and balance that not just left to the market we either need a strong union type stance in our farming indusrty, or the government to put some type of back stop in place.

I have seen the market play out, it’s broken more farmers than it’s made.
Fair points, but revolving around intervention again. Intervention by a govt that has made absolutely clear it has no clue. Any intervention by this lot will be guaranteed to make things worse, just the way it is.

Poultry and pig farmers will get higher prices, they’ll then be able to afford your high priced wheat. Why do you want to see your wheat price chopped down?

The seesaw has finally tipped in our favour after decades of our legs dangling hopelessly in the air. Why do you want to reinstate that? This needs to play out.

This is very true. What a complete waste of money. A company like John Deere could do hands free hectare without blinking, infact the tractors and gps kits on most farms are already capable of doing it.

Maybe AHDB have got too much cash. If their budget was halved, spending would he prioritised to the most useful projects.

I hope it plays out like you expect, me I expect the worst from retail who don’t give a rats about farmers.
The reality is farming is the primary industry on the planet yet we have nearly zero control over farm gate prices, even when they drop below the cost of production.
I do agree max price Capps would be super bad, and min can have negative effects to encourage over production, if not done correctly, but things can be done correctly, and it can benefit farming.
Quotas would do the same as your suggesting create a margin for everyone no super over supply so prices can be less volatile, it’s worked for the sugar industry for years.
It stabilised prices so everyone could make a margin, so if that works?
And a min price can take into account for exceptional circumstances, like wheat going to £320/t effecting the livestock industry and leaving them to the mercy of retail.

I do agree no intervention is better than bad intervention.

Not particularly arguing any points with you, just curious as to why you seem so keen on intervention now there’s a realistic chance of the chickens finally coming home to roost. Why is now the time to justify a margin over the cost of production for instance? Why not last year, or two decades ago? Interference creates unintended consequences, surely we all understand that? Financial pressures are finally creating profitability right in front of us, and this has barely got going yet. The press have only just noticed in the last 3 or 4 weeks, politicians need a while longer. And again, markets always always always overshoot.

A period of hardship is arriving for UK agriculture. I think it is probably required for things to reset. ☹

I think the whole UK economy would benefit from a period of hardship to reset things and re-prioritise.

The country has spend the last few decades creating costs through regulation, and then having to cut investment left, right and centre to pay for it.
