I was confused when I heard the interview live, and having listened again I think she was saying;

Farmers must not cut production, maybe increase it.
The government may need to intervene in the gas price.
Farmers have passed on some of the price increase but retailers need to absorb some of the cost.
We don't want to have to pay £5 or £6 for a pack of tomatoes.

Could someone help me as I'm still confused or does this belong in the WTF? thread.

Farmers should keep production at a level which gives the farmer the most return/profit
If that’s 60% of usual production then so be it
It’s not a farmers responsibility to provide the world with cheap food
In my opinion

There was a time when there was a sense of duty for government to protect farmers from adverse events and farmers stepped up to produce as required.
That completely disappeared when George Eustace said [in light of the new trade deals] that UK farmers needed to cut costs, increase efficiency and compete or [basically] fU7K 0ff.

Useless is echoing his master’s opinion, when not long after getting the premiership, Johnson was heard to say ‘FU7k business’.

A CLA poll shows the Conservatives are rapidly losing the rural vote.
George Eustace and his complicated, poorly thought out ,low payment schemes can take full responsibility for the Conservatives losing massive farming votes at the next election as many farmers struggle to survive with the loss of BPS,Brexit complications and badly drawn up trade deals.

She seems to be speaking for the AIC and the British retail consortium, (perhaps their best paying members).

Farmers must keep producing and food prices must be kept low! How does that work?

The one thing she doesn't say is food prices have to rise "it's going to be too expensive for the consumer" (if they do) is what she actually said.

Can somebody explain what the word farmers is doing in the name of this organisation?

Nonsense.
Farmers would vote for a turd in an unruly blond wig; so long as it had a blue rosette on it's lapel...

I've no idea what her point is.

Already saddling them with extra costs with pet projects. Never found her very credible.
Shot her bolt a long time ago, and forced me leave the NFU in protest.

I had hoped I might look again later in teh year, but not until she goes or starts speaking up for FARMERS.... I am not sure just who she is working for?

Did she really say farmers passed on some of the increase? I'd like to meet one that has done that please.

Why any farmer would vote for this lot is beyond me, not happy with removing 3billion quids worth of rural support it had to trek around the world handing out trade deals to countries that couldn’t believe their luck. It genuinely thinks that throwing a few million at us for greenwash schemes is going to win our favour.

As most farmers aren't members we won't have to pay any attention to her ramblings
Fair enough, but do you think they have loyal members saying "well, Minnette says keep producing (she didn't quite say at all costs but she might as well have done) so we must do whatever she says"?

Or will they see it as I do, as a vain attempt to prop up the corporate suppliers and customers that feed off UK ag while the farmers get thrown to the dogs?

It's really hard to take it seriously.

They ought to get @Dr Wazzock on there to find out what farmers should be doing.
