Mini digger tracking

Got a second hand Takeuchi tb016 on trial for the day. Used it round the yard and everything was fine, took it down the fields and whilst in hi speed it tracks to the left all the time, put it in lo and it tracks to the right, anyone got any ideas? Everything else seems to be working fine, machine has 3000 hours on the clock.

Possibly something electrical with the hi/lo switch circuit? Perhaps the spool for one or both of the travel motors is not being switched correctly, hence machine appears to track to the left or right as spool for the opposing track motor is stuck in the wrong speed setting - hence differing oil flows when tracking in the straight ahead position and machine then tracks on one or the other. Sorry just a wild guess.

Well I took it back to the dealer who is assuring me it just needs adjusting, will see what they come up with, but hopefully a simple fix as otherwise it's a very nice machine

Good news, let us know what he adjusted.
You probably fell head over heels, plenty more diggers in the sea .......

Tbh I've been looking for a digger for a while, this one popped up 2 mile from home and fit all the criteria, dealer seems happy to stand by it for a few months as well so fingers crossed it all works out.

Strange to behave like that, tracking different ways in hi or low, if it was a 13 ton machine I would give back to the dealer and walk away, but not qualified to advise on the Takeuchi small machines - but many many used mini diggers hitting the market as new machines are delivered in the first quarter

Our hitachi used to kinda do that, but it was down to slightly mis-paired tracks. JCB fitter told me they had a jz that did similar to what you describe. it was something to do with one of the valves for the 2 speed tracking not operating right.

Can only find a parts book for a TB016 online. Looks like the Hi/Lo switch on right travel lever is cabled back into loom going to a control unit on drivers left (page 3-10). There are two relays labelled "Travel 2-speed Relay 1" and "Travel 2-speed Relay 2" listed (page 3-11). There is a 2-block solenoid away from the main spool block (page 4-5), looks like one port from this solenoid may control oil flow to 2-speed port on drive motors, pipe runs from solenoid through to the rotary coupling. Hard to say exactly, sorry.

Thinking its more hydraulic rather than electrical as machine changes into Hi and Lo but one of the drives isn't changing back (if was electrical then it wouldn't shift into Hi and/or Lo - would suspect then relays or solenoid playing up but that would affect both drives).

Hopefully dealer gets it sorted for you anyway.
