Heap of dirt/low bank, back up to a low retaining wall with the digger on the higher side. Anything to make the distance between where the digger sits & trailer floor less.

& if you try to climb/lift yourself up make sure the the trailer is level side to side. Smooth steel plate floors & rubber tracks are not friends when its not 100% dry
Yes things can very quickly go bad, especially if you attempt to correct things while on the steel.

Most transporters have a fair bit of grip added in but still paid to put tyres down on the deck to help save marks, in a grain trailer especially I'd recommend putting tyres under the bucket/hitch before setting it down as it's hard to lash to anything and it could knock a dent in the floor .

Loading banks are great but as you said, anything that lowers the trailer and raises the machine is helpful as long as you can get there square and keep tracking on together. Having only just gotten away with taking a shortcut once, I am very very shy about loading. Unloading is nicer
