Yes. We will definitely consider it. People sell their grain on a forward contract why not cattle.

Nothing beats a good trade at market but no doubt buyers will try to tempt farmers away in any way they can.

If we lose markets it’s farmers that will be the long term losers

The certainty of a supply contract and price fixed many months or even years into the future is how many businesses prefer to operate. Of course, how lucrative it is will be depend on the nature of the contract terms.

Have a few friends that work in processing sector of the food industry, they always trot out contract idea for beef when there are spikes in price of their main inputs.
Had a brief look at this website and I feel they wish to act as a contract broker, but arguably they are more interested in the data, for using for I do not know, selling, spotting trends etc.

And then the price is halved on the heifer with a winnet on its fanny.

Seems to be and if the base price goes up above the contract base in that time you get half the rise

Fudge that, what use is that? Anyone with any sense would want a fixed price on a set date.

From what I can see it is a fixed price but if the base price is above that when the cattle go then you get half the difference.
Would probably be a good time to fix at the moment with the base being so high.
