Does thge root system work in a similiar manner to willow, and will hold machinery on top, when harvesting?
It's shallow rooting rhizomes that do allow machinery to travel better than normal although 10 tons on a single axle bale trailer will make shallow ruts if the weather breaks before you get them moved off.

Some of it is on wet ground, doesn't seem to make much difference.
There's wet and there's wet!

Our experience here is that all those clay patches which were growing nothing but rushes 60 years or so ago revert to rushes under miscanthus.

With annual cropping however, you always have a 50/50 chance that they'll turn out to be the best yielding (or the worst) depending on distribution of rainfall.
