Looking at putting areas of land that are always poor yield due to wet and black grass, what average yield arw people getting from their miscanthus and is it hybrid or standard.

Also what are the thoughts about carbon trading and the value this may bring to miscanthus.

Many thanks

No doubt things have moved on since I grew it 15 years ago and I can't remember the figures, but yield on heavy, wet land was crap. Miscanthus performs best on good land, just like everything else

What would you do with it?
At my stage in life, a farm down to miscanthus would suit me down to the ground 👍

Because its down for so long make sure you factor in redraining the land afterwards because the roots wreck drainage systems.

Experience here over 25 years in fields part Miscanthus, part cereals, is that Miscanthus really doesn't like the wet any more than cereals do.

Difference is that, being a perennial, once it's gone it's gone, whereas every year's crop of wheat, barley or oats might be yet another record high, or low.

Last year ours yielded 3.5t/ acre. A bit down on the average of 4.0t.
Some of it is on wet ground, doesn't seem to make much difference.
