Probably one of the fairest places in the country to be judged in - ask the champ, also the most competitive, ask the champ again.

Not wishing to be rude but how would you know apart from heresay? Have you ever been over the Humber bridge anyway?:scratchhead::scratchhead::scratchhead: Have you ever been out of Cambridge? The usual route to our part of the world is straight up the A1. Looks like your screen could be wrong way up again:D:D

So how did the phrase "yorkshire disease" become prevalent then? Its been used on here quite a bit in the last 4 or so years iirc

Have been over the humber plenty of times, parents favourite holiday destination was whitby and the yorkshire dales. They always went via the bridge

As I said - heresay. As far as ploughing matches in the Yorkshire dales... well 'I just shek mi ead' in wonderment. Look on your map again. Our part of the world is 70 miles from Whitby, 35 / 40 from the Dales and whilst both rank in the best of scenic Britain, unfortunately not a lot of match ploughing goes on there. (Big clue is the fields being green all year or that bonny purple stuff that grows rampant on many of the moors you find up there!)

If you were to check back on here the said 'Yorkshire disease' relates more to handling than nepotism. There are far more adept counties at that than us.
I rest my case (just check with the champ though to put your mind at rest)

Indeed Yorkshire disease comes from the amount of handling some believe goes on, I put a good proportion of my success as a ploughman down to ploughing against Yorkshire men, love them or loathe them they can't half plough, they have a much higher standard in their county due to the competition, in turn the Yorkshire judges have had to lift their game as it is far from an easy job when you have 10 men of similar ability all ploughing excellent plots, nearer home the job is generally easier due to less competition for top spot.

I know that handling/treading or manipulating of furrows is wrong and in Yorkshire it does go on as much if not more than other places around the UK but I also know if a zero tolerance was in place and all competitors adhered to the rule the same people would be in the running given they didn't land a bad plot or as we all can do, have a bad day !

Which is why you should never play dominoes against Yorkshiremen, especially those from the Holmfirth/Honley valley.

I'm sure that your excursion onto the moors followed by an encounter with a dyke upset your train of thought for the whole day Ben and hence forth you forgot to engage one of your furrows with the soil as your mind was else where ................................................................................

Just an update on disco & trailer

Disco .......one bust flexy pipe. .so replaced both and associated metal pipes

Trailer. ....found no faults as such ...can only assume it stretched the cables or bent the accuater. ....anyhow decided to replace the complete ball hitch as the handbrake gas strut was missing and the jack was in bad order
Ball hitch was 280:00
Jockey wheel was 56:00

Looks bleddy sexy now...hope it stops (y)

North Yorkshire Police have today revealed that they have scaled down their enquiry with regard to the theft of half a furrow from Stokesley ploughing match.

Reliable sources have revealed that police have ruled out all local suspects and have disclosed that they will today travel owert' brew into Lancashire to interview an as yet unnamed suspect, thought to be the ploughman who initially reported the theft. Foul play has not been ruled out.

So far police have hinted that the suspects christian name has connotations toward a children's series from the mid 50's, shot in a potting shed and having a familial connection with a certain Bill, whilst the surname had a strong do-it-yourself connection to screwdrivers.

Our source can reveal that a piece of vintage agricultural machinery, thought at one one time to have been a Massey Ferguson 135, has recently come into the suspects possession, which according to his Facebook page, he allegedly swapped 'for a bit of plooin'.
