Is that a problem, do you wish to vote for someone who won't stand?
Anyone that stands and gets in and makes their way up the greasy pole seems to be much of a muchness.

Do big companies let the workers vote for who runs the company? If they did wouldn't the workers just vote for the one offering big pay rises long holidays and 2 hour tea breaks?

Those elected are not necessarily the best people for the job, just perhaps the best of the ones that stood and thats a big perhaps

" We " ?, " The West " ?, You do, of course, mean the EU........

I know you guys like to blame everything down to the dodgy fish pie you ate once on Brussels, but the EU have been getting more and more entwined with Russia in recent years.
Building a reliance on Russian energy imports must surely be the polar opposite of ‘pushing’ them?

I know, half joking. Truth is, these ex soviet countries just fancied a decadent " Western " lifestyle. And who can blame them.

So what do you suggest?

Don't know but we do seem to get some bloody useless corrupt folk running countries with so called democracy,
Perhaps as above every decision should go to a vote, that would be a laugh
but as Churchill said, Democracy is not much until you look at the other options.
You think we have sa poor bunch running our countries inn he west but look at the kleptocrats who run the rest of the world !

Anyway. Time to draw a line IMO. But where ? Down the middle of Ukraine ? Along the Polish / Romanian border ? A line does need to be drawn in the sand. And soon.
My only hope in this sorry saga is Russia gets such a hiding in Ukraine, Putin will leave it at that. Or will he ?

Indeed and anyone with an ounce of common sense such as John Mearsheimer who is an American political scientist and international relations scholar and who is the R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicagowill tell you that.

So Ive watched it and listened to him and yes a lot makes sense.
I’m not looking to argue and we see eye to eye on lots of points over the years, but to me there is a fundamental problem with what he says...
Surely, it’s up the the Ukrainian people do freely decide their future, not be told by Russia what they can and can’t do?

It's stated often enough on here, that the primary obligation of a government is to protect its citizens.
Rambo and his gangster crowd have led Ukraines citizens headlong into virtual annihilation. Other Western leaders are playing with fire with the safety and lives of their citizens by poking, prodding and generally getting involved, including flooding their countries with refugees, who, let's face facts, are never going home to a scorched earth country.
And an important, huge part of western Europe's bread basket has been lost to boot.
Fekkin politicians.

So are you suggesting Europe just surrenders to Putin?

Talking to a neighbour today who reckons they should offer 100 k and resettlement in the west to every Russian solider he reckons within a fortnight Putin wouldn’t have 20 % of his troops left.
Bit of a left of field idea but who knows those lads on £200 quid a month may be tempted.

The problem is Putin will make very sure their families will pay the full price of them being traitors. 🙁

So if Vlad marched in then decides like his predecessor that hew needs workers up in Siberia. Do you really think the people of Ukraine havbe not heard of the Gulags, Vorkuta gold mines, the road of Bones, it may not be taught here in English schools , but I bet the Homolodor and the Gulags loom large in Ukrain school curiculum

I think he will. For now at least. Just West of Kiev and down through the lakes.

Yes, but in my opinion, we are heading far away from democracy with government power being handed to corporations by the day. It would be great to live in a true democracy but none of us ever have and I doubt we ever will. We got close maybe.

Meta / Facebook now allowing violent hate speech against Russians / Putin. What the hell is that about? Are there not laws or is the weird guy who runs that firm now making and amending them as it suits him?

What happens when these firms start deciding it's OK to hate and kill anyone based on their race / nationality / religion / sexuality etc? What if that is you or your children?

Anyone who is not concerned should be.

I don’t think Meta/Facebook are giving permission to kill Russians 🤔
