we used to feed blend in the parlour but not all cows would eat it in time, so we fed a higher protein dairy nut mixed 50 50 with rolled barley, it saved a lot of mixing time, just mixed it with the handler bucket, they can eat it a lot quicker thank blend

spring turnout we had extra minerals in the cake

Its not small think its about 20cube. Yes its a paddle like a keenan but that's where the similarities end. Because its a larger diameter it can handle a full round bale of straw. This thread was about mixing blends and the newrock feeders bottom bomb door means if will empty quicker than any other machine. I quite like the retractable blades. You can chop a heap of straw then retract them the rest of the time. Meaning blades will last much longer. Unlike most other paddles you can feed both sides as well.

I fail to see how it empties faster than the my tub with a rear door?

My tub mixer also has retractable blades and feeds both sides.:scratchhead:

How many seconds does it take you to empty say a 6ton load? Haven't seen a tub yet that can empty 100% of its contents completely. some men have to flick into the higher shaft speed to try and flick feed of the augers. Most tubs ive seen haven the blades bolted to the auger flights and have a retractable stopper on the side to help with the chopping which is different from retractable blades. Elub what make is your machine? Tubs do a great job in bales but paddle feeders will feed out much more even and quicker. what type of feeder one will buy all depends on what forages they intend feeding. im not looking to start a childish "my feeder is better than yours" debate. There is a wide range of machines on the market to suit everyone!

The Keenan leaves about 40kgs in the tub when mixing barley & straights mixes and you have to either clean the silage out first or do a mix first that is not going through the parlour feeders.

I've currently a 14 single auger rmh and a 18 twin auger rmh.
I can fit 9-10t of pre mix in my 14rmh,when I open the rear door it empties over half without turning the pto on,when I do turn it on it fires the rest out 30 seconds or so and its empty.(y)

I've had paddle feeders (5 in total,1st one in 1989) they are average at mixing and feeding out, the hi-specs were far better than the keenans.

40kg molasses to the tonne is enough to dampen dust and keep the feed following Ok. They will manage to eat it OK unless you are feeding huge quantities. Calibrate the feeders and you will be fine.

I've been feeding a home mix barley heavy blend all summer. The first mix was very dusty and made milking pretty horrible because of the clouds of dust, since then we put in 1% oil and now there's no dust.

I've actually decided to give up and go back to cake when the current load is gone. This is because at least 1 cow in each row will not eat the barley and this just completely feks cow flow in and out of the parlour because because theres leftover feed in the troughs which others stop to eat. Also when paying someone to come in and mill and mix the savings are minimal compared to a cheap cake.

Agree withforage trader work for large feed firm all mixed on floor with molasses addrd by pump hi spec mixer parked aroud the back for those offical days best wayall you need is a good handler with weigher

We have been feeding a home mix through the parlour comprising of barley and a blend mixed 50/50 it has worked ok but just wondering if protein pellets would work better as the fresh calvers take a while to eat it just thinking we might be able to get more into them. Normally the blend is 33% we mix currently anyone know what % nut we would need to mix with the barley to get a half decent finished mix?
