Been mixing a wee bit of concrete with tractor mixer today- just a little hand load one. like this
upload_2014-11-18_21-16-9.jpeg

Using premixed sand/ gravel and cement. Takes about 24 shovels of sand/gravel and a 25 kg bag of cement.

How long should I leave it mixing? I was leaving it about 10min mixing while I sorted out the previous batch.

:rolleyes:Wow a Bamlett that brings back memories, mixed no end with one of those, top link end must be right length or it over tips and buggers the chain drive sprocket. Nearly cut the end of me finger of raising one of those legs that it stands on. Must admit was never sorry to see the second one go from here.

Sorry I digress:)

10 min should be fine as long as its a consistent mix, not to dry in the back, if the machine is leaning back to much and overfilled just as any mixer the back wont mix too well. Again as with any mixer water first in.

When you empty previous batch pour in a % of the water content of you're next batch . That way it cleans the drum a bit then when you start the next batch, make up to 50-75% water then add rest of mix. Add remaining water as needed.

Same, and I'd put in 12 shovels of ballast, cut the bag in half with a saw, stick half in, then the rest of the ballast and the rest of the cement. It should be mixed near enough straight away.

That was the techinique I was using. However wasn't putting water in till last.

I mixed thousands of loads with one of those things in my youth. was a little barsteward for the chain coming off too:mad::ROFLMAO:

it was always, bucket of water in first, then the bag of cement, start it turning, then 13 shovels of sand and 26 shovels of chips. it pretty much was well mixed by the time I'd finished shovelling:ROFLMAO:

We started with a Lawrence Edawrds like this
(except ours had a finger trapping tipper linkage) we wore the sprocket out and it was done for after that.

Replaced it with a teagle spiromix, far better mixer.(y)

Do you still mix your own @eulb or do you use readymix? I've had 3 loads in today and paid £77 per cube for c35. I can't see how it pays to keep mixing? :scratchhead:

Only mix small amounts with pan mixer now,I sold my wagon about twelve months ago.

Ready mix hasn't dropped but stone and cement have crept up,I was mixing c35 for £50/cube at one stage, saving £32/ cube
