Got cocci issue in lambs that need a wormer as well, did first gang with two shots, be much quicker less faff if we mixed , at appropriate rates, the two ( White drench)
Any reason not to ?

The simple answer is that you don’t know what the two products will do if you mix them. You could find out easily enough if they react and turn into a gloopy mess, but there’s no way you can tell if the efficacy of either is diminished by mixing with the other, which is always a possibility.

I embrace the principle behind sequential/combination drenching with wormers, and would dearly love to be able to shake them up in a bottle together, but even i’m Not brave/daft enough to go that far.....

DON'T DO IT!!!!

That's exactly what will happen.
The carrying agent in the Vecoxan will curdle INSTANTLY with anything other than water, writing the product off. And it is far too expensive to do that to.

Sadly I speak from experience after decanting Vecoxan into a bottle I hadn't washed out properly

Don’t do it, we worm and give them vecoxxan separately as was told by my supplier it will be one big gloop. She had a customer mix them and that is one costly error

I don’t see why anyone would do it though? Talking to Welsh farm Supplies at the NSA day on Tuesday and I asked if I could Bolus the same day, he was saying a shocking amount of people will put wormer in with a mineral drench in the same can and expect both to work fine! He was saying that most wormers line the stomach so that nothing else can be absorbed at the time so to do the mineral drench minutes before the wormer so that it gets to work straight away.

Bit of a broad statement to make on a public forum, and one which is insulting to most of the industry.:stop:

Thats what the statistics and manufacturers say Neil. I dont think it is because people are feckless, more because people are unaware of the specifics involved when administring them. As you know some them have lots of peculiar restrictions.

I was on my phone and in a rush so wasnt able to properly explain, I have no intention of upsetting anyone nor did I mean to suggest people were doing anything illegal or harmful to public health. I was talking more from an efficacy standpoint. Having been reading a lot about the world of pharma and how it is regulated the manufacturers have to demonstrate clinical efficacy very precisely.

For example they might state a particular vaccine demonstrates 95% efficacy in healthy individuals if two doses of X ml are given 90 days apart. They cannot claim: 'magic new vaccine stops worms end of'.

Manufacturers are reporting that these products are not being used properly in many cases, and vets recognise it, too. In the example of vaccines, if people arent giving the second dose, for whatever reason, it more begs the question of why spend the money in the first place by giving the first as there will be no efficacy demonstrated from that alone.

This is what I meant by misuse.

Is there a danger of overdosing minerals if the worm drench contains '+selenium and cobalt' and a mineral drench was given as well?

No, the amount of S+C in a product like Levacur SC is meant to be enough just to cover the animal while it is being handled basically and should never be taken into account, I worm then Bolus within seconds later..

I haven’t had a straight answer from anyone yet if you can overdose on cobalt if you gave a cheap cobalt sulphate drench and a Bolus the same time and then continued with the cobalt drench ever 14 days would their be a negative effect?
