Mobile Broadband

Hi,
I am currently evaluating my options for mobile broadband. I am currently on three and want to take there unlimited data SIM due to price as we have 2 kids that have high internet usage.

The issue I have is where I am going to live which seem to be a patchy mobile area.

Hutchinson communications have put up a new mast about 2 years ago but when I am next to it with a three sim in my mobile I get no signal.

I currently get a patchy three signal and 4g on EE but the maximum data you get is 100 GB of data and is very expensive.

Land lane Openreach has stated that the broadband will not be very good if it works at all and will cost about 10K to install.

Is there any other options that are possible like putting a repeater on top of a hill etc.

On the picture it states the new mast is still under construction but I contacted Hutchinson and they say it is broadcasting.

@Pheasant Surprise knows all the answers

EE do 200 gb for £60 / month. - or they did 9 months ago Often have more options talking to them than on website

Apologies but am quite out of the loop when it comes to the latest 4G broadband deals. I only really properly look when re-negotiating agreements and haven't done that for quite a while. They also change their offers quite often and good specials can be available for quite short periods, that is you often have to be in the right place/ at the right time.

The best I can suggest is have a good look at what all the mobile providers are offering, but have an idea of which providers work best in your local area.

You'd think but if you steam 4k or even true HD movies on something like apple TV it soon goes. We use it up most months but all goes through the business so doesn't really matter

Changed my Three from 40Gb, to unlimited cost went from £20.56 too £21 got a new Huawie Home Fi but 24 month contract.
Tying in above with phone over the air cost £15/mth all calls free from Bt which was going to be 19.99 just for the line and calls extra with mobile calls seriously costly (all my alarm calls go out to mobiles last bill with Bt was £268 for 3 Mths)

Satellite is expensive but you can get it just about anywhere

I have found line of sight with an O2 mast about 1 km away. So hopefully I can get a decent service.
Our telephone line broadband is very poor. 3mb at best.
Do masts get shared nowadays or am I just stuck with whatever O2 offers?
Masts sure do get shared these days. In fact whole networks gets shared!

For example Asda Mobile and Virgin Mobile are both examples of “MVNOs” which use the EE network.

An MVNO is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator. You can be a big national Mobile telco without actually owning any masts.

I have experience running services with all of EE, Asda and now Virgin Mobile and although they may share infrastructure the actual “experience” is very different. So try them and choose wisely!

Have fun. :p

Well a bit of an update on what I posted last week!
The new Huawei B311 I got has been a bit of a challenge!
I have been trying to have it so I can make phone calls out on it by just sticking a J11 phone adapter in the rear and then adding a normal hand set, it wont work. Lengthy phone calls with my mobile Broadband supplier and they say it is impossible. They passed me onto Huawei who said it should work and the new router must be faulty they gave me a reference number for me to give to the Broadband provider who would then issue me with a new router only for them to then still say there is nothing wrong with the router and it wont work as I want it too and they will have nothing to do with my problem. The phone call ended with them terminating the conversation.
By the way, my other system all exactly the same except the router is a Hawei B310 works fine, with only a 3p charge for any calls made.
Further investigation on the B311 regarding putting an external antenna on it revealed that it only has one plug to put an antenna on. But what I have found it dose have a better connection than the B310.
So the External Antenna I have aquired From the "TFF" Oracle "PS" will be fine on the old Router
Further advise from "PS" perhaps has been even more use. Having spoken with guys who have been making Fibre connections outside the new House, they made me aware that Fibre is not the total answer if and when we have a mains power failure. It wont work unless you have a back up power supply.
So with "PS" advise I have installed a stand alone battery set up to run my BB router where the phone that is connected works. All in cost of £19.25 plus a bit of wiring and a battery I already had.
Just trying to make a few others aware of some of my failings and how TFF members are very useful.

A bit of correction in Grammer of original post
