Moddus - “Do not apply if crop is wet”???

Not really picked up on this before - thinking practically - are we talking bone dry or just not straight after rain but ok as dew is beginning to lift??? Thanks

So long as it doesn’t run off the leaves then it will be ok, so long as it’s drying after application. I just reduce the water volume applied for the first tank to help with dew.

I theory you are diluting the application over the leaf, but scorch generally only becomes an issue over 21degrees. I doubt we are at that stage yet. I would be more concerned if the crop was suffering from a physical stress already.

This. Moddus and other trinexpac products aren't the easiest to formulate - see how long it takes to wash a can out. It is also quite warm on the crop so I wouldn't have it as part of a multiple product (4+) tank mix on a soft crop.

Because we only need a little help, this isn’t the wheat that you are used to growing in the wet west with tonnes of sh!t under it. TBF you could argue I might not necessarily need to use it all but it makes me feel better. Normally use 0.1lt.

0.1 l/ha is good enough. 0.2 doesn't do twice the job, but it will double the crop damage.

Originally moddus afaik. I’m surprised an agronomist recommended that. You wouldn’t want to ever use full rate imo.

I've used 0.2 on lush looking oats before. Little else in the tank mix as I wanted to be careful with the crop.

26th season of using it here. The guy who did the spraying in '95 had a blocked jet behind the tank, proved just how much the new fangled Modus shortened the crop!

This is very relevant to those not used to managing drought / lack of N etc at this time of year.

For sure...but i'll bet the ability of Moddus to stall out a crop that needs to be motoring, in certain situations, is news to some.

I am sure it works well in many situations. I was caught out with it here on winter barley. It didn’t rain at all after application and the shortening effect was very impressive. It even shortened the ears and the awns.
I have only ever used chlormequat since and not on spring barley at all for the last few years. The weather has shortened it well enough and I don’t use large amounts of nitrogen
