Modern scraper tractor DPF problems? And views on JD 5E

I hope you laughed out loud when you heard that one .........
What people have to listen too .......
The supply of orange paint in France, USA and Japan has dried up. Something to do with a certain globally recognised businessmen-come-prez cornering the world supply for his special errr....skin treatment.

Good thing JD have got plenty of green and yellow in stock. Crisis averted :p

dont buy a case 50 or 55 or whatever, theyre alsolutely shite, im not sure about the other brands, the valtra compacts looked well built but until youve run one for a year or two its a leap into the unknown, if sheds will allow and it was my own money id go for a bigger tractor if possible

If you are using it for donkey work then get a hydrostatic one if at all possible no clutch to wear out.

Friend of mine had one it was a weapon for scraping. Use to hook it to the reception pit agitator from time to time to exercise it but it was sore on it.

Also a handy geezer for powering the farms generator.

Is anyone using a newer model tractor for scraping duties? (Of any brand) How are you finding it?

We're looking at replacing our 30 year old very worn out scraper tractor with a new one. I just wonder if the DPF which they all have fitted now is going to be a pain with the tractor never doing any very hard work for a period of time to get everything right up to temperature?

Or is it a case that the automatic cleaning cycles keep everything in check and it's a case of leaving it running to do its thing every few months? They only have a little 2.9l 3 cylinder engine so they shouldn't take too much warming up.

We've got a DPF on one of the main tractors and it's never been a problem, the light just comes on every 6 months or so to say it's cleaning and you don't know anything else about it but that tractor always tends to be doing heavy work.

Also has anyone got any experience of the little Indian built JD 5E series? We're looking at a 5058E.

Look forward to hearing any views.

How is the clutch standing up ,new ones
wish mine had the clutch less reverse.
First clutch lasted 600 hours. Lads now banned from scraping out in high box as reverse is too high geared. Other wise very pleased with it. Difficult too put a price on knowing it's going to start first thing every morning and nothing is likely to break. Much better for staff morale than the previous MF565 and Ford 4600.

I have a kioti ck3510, it's manual; but a joy to scrape with. I'd disagree with others; this thing will turn on a dime and the build quality is fantastic. 600 hrs and not one fault.

It's run the farm genie normally powered by the mf575; and lucas straw bedder. It's a very under rated machine; and when the cows go out it will be used to fetch them,

I'd agree with others a hydrostatic one would be way better; but I'm equally happy with our manual version.

There's no dpf etc on mine; but I think the latest ones have.

I've just taken out a 5055E due to continuous quality issues and a dry clutch that has been replaced 3 times in 2500hrs on scraping duty. We have put a T4.55 in with a wet clutch, hopefully it will serve better. Tractor is only 3 yrs old

Have a t4020 that is dry clutch, seems to last about 1000hours. Next one will be wet clutch. @mf7480 make sure you get something with a wet clutch! Or a smaller loading shovel or big bobcat?

These machines probably aren't up to the kind of grief a yard scraper will give, it's a scaled up ride on lawn mower in some cases I bet, designed for landscapers and horticulture.

Nice skid steer probably be better but fudge that climbing over the front lark. Volvo and JCB make side door versions.

I've got a £5-8k 390 at the moment and it's costing a fortune to keep running. It's just old and worn out, there's no point in replacing it with one the same.

It's a 14ft yard scraper so a 240 etc won't do the job. It has to be 4wd and weigh at least 3t.
Main problem with older tractors is the gasket between the seat and the steering wheel. Get this right and it will last for yearz

All of the options we're looking at have a wet clutch, I wouldn't consider a new tractor with a dry clutch.

Run out....? What of stock spec machines? If you ordered a build to spec tractor today from any manufacturer the likelihood is you wouldn’t see it before May/June now anyhow.

Yes, run out of stock. I know they will take several weeks/ months to come from a new factory order, but that doesn't help when I need the tractor yesterday. I'm confined to looking at what's available.
