Moisture Meter Replacement

Hello All,

Just a very quick question - we have had a Farmex moisture meter for the past 10 years or so and this year whilst it appeared to be testing correctly and having had it calibrated it has let us down resulting drying being needed that we had not planned for just after harvest.

Previous to this we had a grinding style meter but that was before we grew OSR. My question is what meters would you suggest as a replacement? Obviously having specific weight would be useful but it isn't the be all and end all. We just need something trustworthy and reliable and good for the money!

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Steve

P.S. sorry if it covers previous threads but if it does then point me in that direction.

Exactly the same question here, SteveE.

I've been thinking recently that my 1947 Marconi really deserves to be parked up at last but, to be fair, it's had absolutely no moisture claims against it ever proven so far.

What's one to do?

I like it. Doesnt like grinding up beans though. It is useful to be able to have it average out a days sample readings as I tip in the shed.

I ordered a Wile 200 from Agri-shop a week last Sunday. No communication from them since the order. Tried emailing, calling and texting. No response!!! They had money via PayPal. Anybody no anything about them ?

That's interesting to hear

I think I've seen a tweet from @RTK Farmer that I explains why.

P.M. sent.

We had heard the same @Richard III its seems from Davids Tweet that Ian who ran Agrishop has very sadly passed away. @Shropshire Farmer I think you will need to bear with his family right now as Ian was the man behind this and would not have let anyone down. These are quite exceptional circumstances. RIP Ian

I have had a Wile 200 for the last 12 months. I'm very pleased with it. I trust it more than my Protimeter and much more than my Sinar Agri Pro which I find hopeless for wheat but good for oilseeds.

Had a Wile 78 for a couple of years and very pleased. Protimeters I had before were a disaster. Asked when getting meters tested at clinics as they see all makes and models and was recommended by them and not been disappointed. Reasonable value compared with some and does the job.

Got a Wile 78 and 65 here.

Use the 78 in field as it takes a smaller sample, and the 65 at the store as it is quicker.

I also have a dried sample to calibrate against...
