Thanks for that @Exfarmer , currently oil fired central heating and bog standard electric contract, just feel like we need to be doing something in the renewable line.....it’s just a cas3 of what? If the maths don’t stack up then nothing will change.my own house last year produced 7,800 units from a 7.8 Kw system which if I had used all would have saved me about £1100 on my current supplier of about £0.14 / unit. However I very much doubt I used half that even though I have swimming pool with heat pump. Thanks to the hot summer it was not running most of the time.

Was chatting to a biomass heating engineer a few weeks ago and even he said you can’t beat oil (with no government money)
What is this madness?I have a biomassboiler heating the farmhouse
And I wish I’d left the oil boiler in
It would have been cheaper to stay on oil !
But I love the biomass boiler itself, just it is expensive to run
As soon as the sub runs out I’ll be plumbing the oil boiler back in

You sound like a sailor lost at sea resorting to drinking sea water after your first hour on a lifeboat.
Because both fuels are finite and will always deal with volatile price fluctuations. Why ??
Do you think biomass pellets will drop in price sometime soon?
I don’t
When people jumped on the biomass bandwagon the price of pellets shot up
Oil would be cheaper

Abd you end up with an oven in the summer and you need to replace the redundant boiler with air conInsulation is the way forward. Add external insulation, triple glazed windows and mvhr and you won't need any power or oil to heat the house.
I bet it’s nice around your place in the dead of winter huddled around a candle for warmth, fun times. Do you bottle your methane so you’ve got a source for cooking?Shouldn't be too bad if you follow passive House principles.

Yes, you try sleeping in a house which is 40C. !Not if you do the MVHR correctly and use the cool overnight temperatures to reduce the core house temperature for the following day.
