Mole ploughing 20mm blue pipe

Hi all

Plan: to install 150 meters of 20mm MDPE pipe to service 2 new cattle drinkers.

Considering doing this myself but have no mole plough so,

First question:

- is it possible to hire a mole plough attachment in Pembrokeshire? Or has anyone got one for sale?

Second question:

- what would I expect to pay a contractor to do the work?

Thanks

Dig hole each end and rope off back of mole plough and just kink the blue pipe through the rope and pull away. I did this. No problems but then I am in clay soil

Emyr Jenkins, Pembrokeshire fencing has one. He’s moled in 000’s of meters of pipe.
20mm pipe is not very big for drinkers unless it’s a small number of cattle .

It is actually illegal to lay blue water pipe on the surface or have blue pipe directly exposed to sunlight above ground. Light penetrates the pipe allowing algae to grow inside and contaminate water. Some pipes do have internal black liner to prevent this. Water companies do farm checks. I had one a while back.

Better get the admin team to hide lots of photos off the website then, I've seen loads in the sunlight It's clear pipe that grows algae.

I understood that it is illegal to use blue pipe for non potable water. I would be amazed if enough light could get through a blue pipe to allow algae to grow but if it didv it would suggest the water copmpany are not treating the water to a proper standar

It is actually water regs that state blue pipe is meant to be used underground or protected from light. Black pipe for above ground use. Of course nobody takes any notice until the water board inspector comes for a visit

If using blue pipe for non-potable water it has to be marked. Usually with a coloured stripe along its length

I don’t make the rules, I don’t enforce the rules. Had Anglia water inspection of non return valves on taps and water pipe going to service boxes on water troughs. Google blue water pipe above ground and see what it says.
