We owned a 2007 for about 3 weeks. Had an intermittent problem with the turbo sensor. But ford would not see the sensor, only a new turbo. Back into car auction, lost £600. Will never be owning a ford diesel again!
You'd be better to get it plugged in, see what the fault codes point too ..............
Any garage will be able to tell you, before you commit to a fix.
You could try disconnecting the battery overnight .........
One of my best ever purchases was a fault code reader off fleabay - a garage wanted £200 to fix the ems warning on my Mondeo. I opted for £25 for a reader and the code that came up indicated inconsistent Lambda reading - the sensor cost the princely sum of £25 and took half an hour to fit, so for a quarter of what the garage wanted I fixed it myself. Thanks to the reader I've also saved friends & family quite a bit of money.
