Totally agree with Ballygreenan. Had moocall for around 12 months. The old chap swears by it, can go to bed with peace of mind that it will go off if a cow starts to calve so don’t have to keep getting up every hour to check. The on/off switch broke so had to send it back to moocall for repair no quibble just repaired and sent it back. Also has a good App for your phone to record AI dates/ repeats etc free of charge. Overall very impressed

Recently got one for a 21 day trial, and I was not impressed. Too many texts and texting too soon before calving was my biggest gripe. who wants to be wakened out of their sleep 2 hours before a cow calves, why not make it half an hour? I had one cow that calved and then I got a text after I had the calf fed. I Can see the advantages if you are a small farmer but in a larger farm maybe not that cost effective. I would need at least 10 moo calls on the close up cows when we are in full swing at the calving, imagine the texts id receive with 10 of them bleeping at me!

Had 2 got on well only 2 false alerts. Normally got 4/5 to look at when calving so 2 wasn’t really enough so would get out anyway. Saved more than 2 calves a year. Think it’s £90/year Worth while but nothing like seeing then with own eyes

We do use a camera but I do find the moo call excellent you get a good nights sleep no need to wake to look at the camera and yes they probably text you an hour before you need to be there but you get used to that and no matter where you are next door or 60 miles away you know when somethings happening and you only need to save one calf and it's paid for ....great product

Another very satisfied moocall customer. It sometimes goes off a bit early especially for heifers but nothing working with live animals is going to be foolproof. The important thing for me is has never NOT gone off when something was calving so I have the confidence to sleep soundly! We have also fitted a camera in the calving pen so if it does go off in the night I can check without leaving the house (bedroom actually) whether I need to go straight out.

Which camera have you fitted (or anyone else for that matter)?

Adding the camera sounds like a good idea! Least if a cow can get on with it herself with no intervention you can view from the house without adding stress to her

Regarding the camera type, reading off the invoice it is a PTZ H01080P. It is the type that you can set to do different sweeps of the shed but then operate manually via the mouse on your monitor to hold in one place or zoom in etc. When you zoom in you can just about read a cows ear tag so you can get a good look most of the time if a cow is calving. The point about looking without adding stress to the cow is a good one which we have noticed as well. As an aside it's much easier to spot cows/heifers bulling for AI with the camera for the same reason
