More chickens than sheep in Powys!!!

I just heard on farming there are estimated 9 million chickens in Powys and planning applications for even more but there are objections saying enough is enough because of smell and increased traffic

Most be some great gov or eu funding to help build them . Give it a couple of years and water authorities will be moaning about nitrate levels in the surrounding land/waterways
I didnt realise until recently that alot of these pack houses on fruit/veg farms had been paid for with eu grant money.

It's just a part of the world, like Lincolnshire, where there's a high density of poultry farms.

Morspan pretty much let the way on clear span housing, and they're based out that way somewhere.

No gov or eu funding involved afaik. There are a huge number of poultry houses across Radnorshire which is in the middle of Powys. They have been a very good payer and all that have been able to get pp for a poultry shed have put one or six or more up and have been doing very well out of them. There are growing concerns for the environment across the county and pp has been on stop for a while. The north of Powys has been able to get into poultry and wind turbines while we in the south/national park have been denied the opportunity to cash in on these enterprises. Most of the objectors are folk who have moved into the areas, or "blow ins" as they are known by.
My son has done a lot of soil testing around Radnorshire and in many cases, their phosphate and nitrate levels are pretty high if not very high.

There isn't that much around Peterborough. I'd imagine you've got a fairly similar person to chicken ratio in this 5200 sq km.

Only a small number getting some sort of a grant in the grand scheme of things but very interesting to see that one big company/farm had £2.6million to expand their slaughtering facility but couldn't pay my son and his mates for shearing their sheep.

It explains how some have grown quite rapidly. Think it's very unfair. Modulating money off people to give to the choosen few. When most probably most farms could do with it themselves. Becareful of the new nitrate zone stuff if you go into chickens. The land requirements for the muck was quite big.

There is. A huge list of farms getting huge grants for equipment to sheds. 32,000 free range shed in llanidloes had £500,000 grant. Big dairy farms getting huge grants for shed extensions and stuff.

look below should find that title

Rural Development Programme 2014-2020: socio economic approved projects

I know that first one and the grant wasnt solely for the chicken shed as the evidence you provided shows, it was for multiple areas of the business. Yes it a lot of money and i would love to get my hands on some but my agricultural business is not deemed viable. Best of luck to them really, They farm on a large scale and keep people employed around here.

WAG / Farming connect spent a decade encouraging / subsidising organic farming. This went tits up in about 2002 when too many went in for it. Things went quite for a while till WAG / Farming connect started encouraging / subsidising egg production..........
