Either or at Sainsbury's. You don't get the choice online. 🤬

I suppose the positive you can take from that is they aren’t using imported product. to undercut domestic, which is the usual scenario. We just have to appreciate the public really doesn’t care on the whole where it comes from, its price. I see this a something of a compromise, the consumer isn’t left thinking they are out of pocket if it’s as expensive wherever it comes from?

Can't argue with that.

I read it as they will choose what they send you, so I'm guessing they will supply mostly the cheaper import so they make more money and pay less to UK farmers

What they are doing with that is supplying the cheapest option if they have it in stock ( ie NZ ) but if they are short of that they will use British.

In fact they are actually devaluing British produce by doing what they are.

If you buy over the internet yes they probably will, but if you shop in store and see both at the same price on the shelf I imagine the majority would pick the British leg. I don’t think many urban internet shoppers would ever buy a whole leg of lamb anyway they wouldn’t know what to do with it they’d just eat out somewhere for a meal like that.

If Banbury store is anything to go by, they won't matter much longer anyway.
They used to see most of our shopping money, now only buy breaded scampi there, because it is by far the best one.
Their spuds are stockfeed.

What’s the farm price difference between the UK and Australia/NZ?
Someone said it’s pretty high in the UK at the moment 🤷‍♂️

Last time I looked up and converted trade (granted that was back in December) - NZ farmers were getting about 10p/kg more than UK farmers for their lamb.

Edit; Tried to look but can't find where I got the prices from, but headlines of recent articles which come up suggest NZ lamb has dropped, a lot.

A very sad policy, while I don't farm I do feel this is wrong. We are constantly being told how dire the world is due to climate change and the need to carbon offset etc yet we will import something in that we have plenty of here in fantastic quality.

I see the same with Venison, most is from NZ yet we are heaving with deer here and stalkers can't get a fair rate for them

A very strange thing indeed
