Moss on big 6 roof

Is there any chemical i could use to remove moss of a big 6 roof. I'm gently scraping off atm. Got trees near but not overhanging. Was gonna try find some spray to kill whats left and try stop moss etc returning.
Any ideas and suggestions.

I did some research on this and I think it was ferrous sulphate that is the active ingredient of a lot of moss killers. I am not paying for a fancy package and expensive advertising so got some off Ebay. Not sure of the correct dosage but a saturated solution of the salt in water sprayed onto my yard did a good job of killing the moss. Next job is to do the roof. But it won't remove it, though I do think it falls off when it's dead.

I just leave it on, when you get heavy rain you do have to clean the gutters but you have to do that anyway

i meant the roof itself will get stained brown which i suppose will save on paint . any moss i've treated with iron sulphate goes black.

Don't use iron sulphate it spoils the roof


Use benzalkonium chloride - either knapsack it on or put it in a foam bottle on the pressure washer and spray if up on the roof. Leave for 2 months, empty gutters and do it again. Get it on ebay or from a chemical website

Best thing for scraping it off is a bit of 110mm down pipe fits perfect up the gulleys, and although not tried it, am told a strip of copper along the ridge each side will stop moss coming back.

I used these to clean off Moss on our barn conversion offices, probably a bit ott for a barn roof but they did a great job on the tile roofs, the Moss just disintegrated with no cleaning up required

Sorry guys, but I have to say so long as the roof keeps the rain off I don't give a sod about the colour. I knew there was a reason why I stayed a bachelor!
