Most Accurate Muck Spreader

It is glaringly obvious with all machinery but the bigger the better with spreaders.

We see an absolutely massive difference in output between a 14 and 18 tonne spreader. Running from in field piles your talking about 10t/hr difference which over 14 hr day is big.

There is very little difference in terms of soil damage between a 14t and 18t setup as well. Same tractor, tyre equipment etc.

I'd say buy as big as you can afford and spread in better conditions knowing you've got output rather than going down the smaller route thinking it's about less weight so less mess. If it's wet then a 10t machine will make the same mess as a 20t machine because your running over the soil twice as often.

Agrihire is a good machine but is power hungry and the 18SD makes 240hp work from powering the bed and discs PoV rather than towing PoV. The Bunnings appear to require less power for some reason. Tebbe is a great machine but expensive.

Pete,s limiting factor may be that he wants to use an existing 100hp tractor though,,,

I agree with most of what you say till the moment it gets plenty damp enough and there still filling the big spreaders full , at that point give me a 12 ton spreader any day , the sludge spreading guys have 15 tonners I believe and in my opinion they are plenty enough , but for your comment t about getting the job done as quick as poss when ground conditions allow your absolutely bang on , it's just unfortunate that ground conditions aren't always perfect hence your thread about fitting 1050 tyres to spreaders

And when do contractors come to spread when conditions are ideal, it cant be done .........
Just saying, with so many customers someone is going to get 18T in wet weather

But 18t in the wet will make the same mess as a 10t in the wet because the 10t is making twice the journeys.

The point is go 18t and then ONLY spread in ideal conditions. It's your spreader so you won't be going in bad conditions.

I've been and had a look at the job today.

I'm confident the stuff will run through my spreaders, and I'm sure the discs will spread it well. There won't be too many days per year for the job so I think best to stick with the spreaders I've got and save expense. Yes, it will be slower than a muck spreader but not stupidly so.

We're going to have a go next week with two spreaders. If the job goes well and the customer is happy with the price then we'll take it from there.

Thanks for your input, it's much appreciated.

A little bit late to the party . But a little bit of information for you Pete . When conditions was a little bit wet I would spread poultry muck through the big A and the terragatars lime spreaders.

Dried digestate from an AD plant.

It was like rabbit droppings from rabbits the size of elephants!

I didn’t really get to the bottom of it, but the producer was getting some kind of payment to dry the digestate rather than apply it as a liquid.
