Moving a static caravan?

It was a few years ago but had one we needed to move round into position. I found it better on your 4x4 clutch if you use a tow ball on the tractor drawbar instead. I was quick to quit my 1st attempt to reverse it, off road, uphill and round a corner at a speed below the minimum offered by the 4x4 gearbox.

Be a complete waste of time with the Ford Ranger we have here then! Never had such a highly geared low box....

I use a compact with a 3pt tow hitch for such tasks.

I always have a chuckle when I see caravan sites with 100+HP tractors that only ever get used to drag caravans around... a job that could be done with a Dexta!

It’s stopping them that the dexta would struggle. During my days at a main dealer quite a few new 85hp 4wd tractors were supplied to caravan parks and boat yards. One park tried telling us that one half of their challets were just over 6 tonnes and needed height adjustable towing frames front and back. We kind of over engineered them but you had to take into account that they were driven by drivers that had never used a tractor before! One used to have clutches annually!!!
