Moving Home

Is there anything more stressful? Add to that building that home. But we are in, nothing is finished fully, but I have a functioning kitchen, one finished bathroom, one partially and one along way to go. Now we have the battle with BT to look forward to. Changing to plus net, having a new line fitted and hoping to keep our old number!. Cooking Christmas lunch in a new kitchen is a challenge I am looking forward to, that and not having contend with cows calving, I insisted the bull came out in time to give us a clear run. Just one left to go:) The next on March the first:)

And to think it was @multi power all that time ago that encouraged us to go for planning. Thanks so much.

In a similar position here! bought a place over 6 months ago only just moved in 2 weeks ago!
What we thought was just going to be a quick lick of paint turned in to a major refurb,
Full rewire of electrics £5.5k, (both first and second fix including all fittings)
Full replaster of walls and 2 new ceilings £3.2k
All new skirting boards and door architraves (did that myself)
All New bathroom inc tiling etc etc ) (done that myself too)
Refurbished fire place and new fire plus liner, £2.4k (including new slate hearth and oak surround/edging plus oak mantel piece)
New front door and lounge window £2k
2 x new radiators
3 x new window boards/sills
carpets, curtains etc
New oven

Got a few bits an pieces to finish still, only got 2 of the 7 internal doors finished and on.
bits and pieces in the kitchen to finish.
And only got a temporary aerial at the minute as when I when to connect it realised the earth braiding wire had disintegrated as some how wet has got down and in the wire/lead from out side.

Got to put new roof on garage next year and sort the drive out hopefully that will be it then till some thing better comes along!

Good luck with BT. My brother has just moved half a mile. They issued him with 5 new phone numbers before he could persuade them he really wanted to keep the old one.

We have lots of friends in the army because of where we live. One couple we know are well into double figures on house moves. Once was enough for us.

We are just doing the same. Built a new bungalow over the last year or so and moving in over the next week.
I haven't even got the building inspector in to sign it off yet so we will probably be in before he gets to sort it. He may not be happy about that!

moved 3 times so far. First house just me and the essentials, then OH comes along and adds a females touch i.e house plants, books etc, then move again and all of a sudden we need pictures on the walls and more cupboards. Then onto house 3 and we need subtle lighting a rug in front of the fire and MORE cupboards to put all the things that we have accumulated.
Moral of the story is don't be afraid to have a throwing out session.

If you get it signed off you have to pay council tax.
Funny it took me months and months to get the final extraction fan fitted in the utility

When moving house use stickers.
Red dot for throw away.
Orange dot for non essentials
Green dot for essentials.

We moved from house to mobile home to barn conversion.

That was bad enough, getting up and the water in the sink was frozen!

Mid house build here, roof off renovation and extension

Did a new build 5 years ago and said never again ! This time it's been easy and low stress however so maybe we learnt from the laat one !

Will be march before we are in I think but will all be worth it

Lived in my last house over a year before it was "complete" not a problem for building regs

Never use the council for building regs - 3rd party companies are cheaper and much easier to deal with
