Moving sheep on a road signage

I spend a horrifying amount of my time running sheep up, down and across roads. @DanM will remember helping me gather and push about 1000 ewes with single lambs out of their lambing field, onto the major Basingstoke to Newbury A road and along it for quite some way to one of our fields. It was a hot June day and the gate way out was in the middle of the hedge 😂 dogs were goosed!

If the road is particularly hazardous and For that small a field / block and stock numbers , a few ally hurdles dog and box are the way to go .
Its not difficult to bang in a few stakes strategically to hold the hurdles and they can be left there permantly if required

Common sense simple and could be done in the time it takes to post and read a forum or shocial medja whatever.

Make a couple of sandwich boards out of ply with ‘sheep on road’ in big letters with battery powered led lamps flashing above and below, fold them up and throw them in the back when your done. Best to have two at each end, the first to catch attention and the second to instruct.

I was quite anxious first time I had to move sheep across a road (busy bit just outside the speed limit, downhill and a bit blind) assembled as many people as I could and when we got to the field there was a road crew connecting someones new watermain, right in the gateway with the road dug up. I very nearly went home, but thought Id just ask... having explained to the road boss he said "No problem, we can put the lights on RED BOTH WAYS" Id never heard the expression before, but several times since Ive wished for a bit of Red Both Ways

Here the farm is split into three by a little byroad, and that is bad enough, you can guarantee, there won't be a car for hours...until you want to get cattle across the road.
Anyone farming with a busy road to work around has my sympathies. If it were me I'd stick to many people to stop cars, or as we often do, park something big across the road. Failing that the trailer is king, until the new proposals by defra come to pass although at least you'll be able to block the road up with the trailer while you walk the sheep down the road.

Used to move 50 cows and their calves 4 miles down an A Road back home was done 1st sunday in November set off at 7am I had 5 helpers and a fair few gates strategically placed and all the house owners knew to close their gates. All back home in about an hour best way for man and beast.
