Moving Sheep Over 65 km.

Aye-up,

I know that if sheep are moved over 65 km as part of a business you need the relevant certificates.

I might be getting a bit pedantic here, but my lad would like to buy a few pedigree sheep to start a hobby flock. He doesn't run a business, he is still at school, it will just be a hobby.

Is it OK for us to go over 65 km to fetch some? We don't have the over 65 km certificate and we need to move in the next few days if we are to have a chance at picking the best. We have found just what we are looking for about two hours drive away, 110 miles.

All the rules I can find state " as part of your business", but this will just be a hobby.

Cheers, Pete.

Same here. Just done the certificate but being doing it for years weekly just on the cusp of the distance. Got to the course and he says the 65km includes going back, so round trip and not one way? Still not sure that's true. Never been asked either so wouldnt worry.

Just stick em in the boot

A chap I know fetched a rather special ram for his wife's flock from north of Birmingham. And drove it back to Cornwall in the back of a van. The looks on people's faces as he drove through towns was a picture (he said) He doesn't like motorways.

You lot all fell for it. @Cab-over Pete 's Global Domination of the Sheep Sector has grown stealthily out of nowhere. He now has sheep in a 65km radius, renting land all over Warwickshire and beyond. What he is actually asking about moving thousands of sheep even greater distances. Are all those tripple decker livestock wagons are fueled up and ready to go?

Please avoid the Cotswolds @Cab-over Pete I'm trying to make a living as well over here ;)

It only includes the return journey if you take the sheep home (y) The same sheep that is, not any you bought at the sale

Our farm assurance pointed this out to us at our audit this year... I would think if you're not farm assured there would be very few places the certificate would be asked for... but if you are be prepared for it to be asked for at your yearly audit.
