Mower bed repair

So after years of service my front mower has for no reason at all lost drive to the outside disc after removing the bearing turns out it's one of the smaller cogs in-between that's given up question is is it worth stripping the bed down replacing broken or damaged cogs cleaning and putting back together or would I be better pricing up a new bed have people had success repairing the bed mower is a pottinger alpha motion

I suspect it depends how much time you have, certainly it was never economical (on the john deere mowers) to pay someone to strip and repair, the lely mowers were a bit different, very little experience with pottinger though, if it were me I'd ask for a price for both options.

Pottinger IIRC are like Krone with a closed one piece bed? Skids off, hubs off, retaining bolts off and small gears will slide out? Bed on bench is easier but they can be done in place on Krone. Much easier than say a Kuhn which needs the bed off, stripped right down and split open

Is that a serious question?
A days work and a few hundred quid in parts vs (I'm guessing) £2-3k for a new bed?
Well yes it was a serious question I Know of several people that have had a bed repaired only to have them go again shortly after and since we've finished this years grass times not a problem over winter to fix it but when we get cutting again next year I can't afford possibility of it going with 1000ac to get through

If you have a thousand acres to do would it be an option to sell and buy a newer mower?

Aye yes yes aye,

Taarup 307, don't remind me, the nightmares faded 10 years after the went,

Pottinger, had no experience with them,
But should be simple enough if your good with the spanners,
I bow the the knowledge of the previous posters on here on this one, but there is some posts near the mark on how I think it will be done,

Just I tip, if its your first one, and it's winter, get it out, and on to the bench or something similar, plenty of light, and clean area to work.
No reason why it won't be ok if its done right,

Difficult part is in winter you repair, no grass to try, then as you say 1000 acre to cut, 1. How many acres has it cut, 2. How old is it, 3. How reliable has it been, 4. have you a backup if it is not a successful repair , 5. give it a good going over to be sure then you like everybody has to take the chance you’ve bossed it!

Crikey 1000 acres to mow (assume that means multiple cuts) my guess would be to invest in a new or very nearly new machine. Repair the old one run it to check OK and put at the back of the barn as a spare.

Was doing up to 400 acres a year up until two years ago with a 307. Still an excellent cutting mower..
