What mower combinations are lads running infront of there balers? Idealy with a grouper/swarter as i dont have a rake. Have an 8ft with grouper but looking for more output. Any one working with 9ft 3628ft front and 9ft 4328lt trailed kvenelands with grouper?

I had a front and back trailed and it was a disaster to get in and out of places , too long and wide , I now have a 10 ft front and rear mounted pottinger which is very easy to get around , forget about swarding for baling , farmers want to wilt and ted so get a rake or lose the work , all grass is now spread with the mowers and raked around here now , it makes far better silage and less bales . Mowers with swarters are history around here and back 15 years ago every new mower had one fitted as standard.

All mowers near me have swarters, rakes are parked up in the yards by the lads who have them. Farmers happy enough with it swarted and to get there grasd baled, we dont get enough good weather for the rake here in the south west, too much mist and drizzle, swarter isnt going to die out here.

Then look at pottinger they have a mounted mower with swarter. Don't go trailed at all costs .

Thought you had bought a set of second hand Claas triples

Have looked at the cross flow by pottinger, good idea, mower looks awkward the way it swings back and dont think you can just use the back mower on its own if you want to swart if ud no front mower on

Can you put a grouper on a centre pivot ?

I tried one out on a demo mower a few yrs ago and I couldn't get a nice swath for a baler it's just wasn't a nice shape

You'll need a grouper with in cab speed adjustment to get the swath even enough for baling. I've grouped with a Taarup 4032 and a John Deere 1365, the Deere struggled to put 2 side by side close enough to bale, the Taarup set 1 on top of the other.

If you put a spacer under the 1365 to keep the swarter up a fraction it will then through the grass a lot better .

Yes you can. I'm looking into it. Not to group swathes but to bring more grass into the rakes swath so I can get more grass in front of the baler and wrapper and the wagon on the lighter crops but still have a size rake the little baler can handle.

We had trouble with the grouper blocking, lifting it up would've made it worse. Lifting the whole mower on bigger wheels helped, and gave it a chance of clearing swaths when turning, but you really shouldn't have to modify a new machine. I'd be happy if I never used a 1365 again

They plan to have it folding up instead of swinging round the back, yes it can mow without grouping but spreads rather than swaths, & its done by hand so can't group a field with rear mower only if that's what you want.
What about Keltec? the grouper bit looks to have a ram going to it, but they don't show it mowing without grouping it so don't know.
I've tried the front & rear trailed for baling, yes it can work but you are always adjusting stuff to try & get the swath right, & sometimes you just can't.
Used to group all 2nd cut here but that day is gone, everything get's spread with the mower & raked now, I'd say that will come to you at some stage too, just a question of when.

I'd go claas centre pivot then if it's possible they look a very good mower to me just a front mower in a frame on wheels o my downside is the drawbar that's about a mile long

I definitely wouldn't consider a front with a rear trailed . The trailed was a handful on it's own never mind trying to match a front and group a decent swath fine in big wide open flat fields with GPS but not round my way (y)

I've got a lely centre pivot at the moment. The draw bar is long but you can steer it into anywhere. It's a brilliant mower and on the right going and operator you can nearly get the output of a front and rear. The main reason for looking at changing is agco back up. Really going to look at pottinger.

Keltec works the same way as pottinger, no good without the front mower if grouping. Were going to get away without raking here, dont get the weather here in the south west of ireland, too much mist and drizzle, farmers glad to get the bales made this way before the next shower of rain comes. Few contractors haves rakes but spend most the season parked
