Mower conditioner

I’m looking about for a new/tidy used moco seeing that my contractor is giving up. Would really like a trailed mower like our old Kuhn 250g 10 years ago! Any body out there had any experience with a krone 2800 trailed or a jd 1355. Gone off the idea of a mounted mower after my mate snapped the linkage arms and cross shaft with a Mchale and I think a trailed cuts far better
Thanks

Taarup 4028/4032 at a time were probably about the best mower about. Still a great mower but getting older.

Mounted mowers cut fine, setup right they are just as good as trailed.
Taarup's 4032 was the best mower of the era. Where I was working back then changed a grossly overrated JD 1365 for a Taarup 4032 and mowing went from being torture to being a pleasure. Shame the current Kverneland mowers aren't half as good as the 3000 and 4000 series.

The drawbar 1365’s of way back were pretty good at forming and conditioning the swaths, the giro ones were ok when they were working..

In saying that I always found the Kuhn FC a very good mower.

I still have a 300 Series Taarup that stands as backup mower on 250-300 acres per yer. Still in excellent order.

1365s don't leave a consistent swath for baling, even with a spread plate. It's wide one way and narrow the other and the current ones still do it.

How do you find your 300 series Taarup for reliability and parts availability? I've no experience of them but know of a tidy 306 that's tempting me but the age of it is putting me off a bit.

Krone 283 and kv 337 here from same era of design.krone cuts cleaner at speed I find it better swath too but harder to set the float up when new as it pulls the bed.

Kv is easier to drive and does back up.
Krone all the way here but there was a bad series which didn't last long could have been the 2800 not sure. But the current series seem to be great might have been the 280 series wasn't great. Wouldn't touch anything but krone as a choice now.

I always liked the JD trailed mowers. The last one I used, years ago, was a centre pull one, not sure of the number but it was brilliant.

Grassmen were trying a new Krone on YouTube the other day, looked good.

Not a fan of single mounted mowers either.

Very simple solution to this that we have done on a few 1360/1365s over the years. Mount a plywood board in underneath the rear curtain. About 3ft deep I think, Can check tomorrow if you wish. This evens out the swath and leaves a lovely even swath for baling as the grass hits off this board and lays in a more even and square fashion. Wont be an option for mowers fitted with a grouper.

I have a 6~8 inch alloy plate hinged to the back of mine, can pivot it up out of the way when grouping.

Some parts are obsolete, some are very expensive compared to the value of the mower, find a donor to scavenge for parts is the best idea for running one long term.

I’ve mine 8 years now.

They are good mower that can probably handle more than they should for their own good, when they were new 90hp was a match, I’ve been sending 140hp it’s way and ran a shaft in gearbox couple of years ago. No breakdowns or troubles until then.

Other than that it’s been great, not nearly as manoeuvrable as a modern mower but for an older cheap machine on a small workload it’s an option.

We've a Krone and Pöttinger trailed mowers. Both cut great, Krone leaves a better swath. Krone doesn't have any belts except for the grouper which is a plus.

I'd never have a mounted single moco over 2,8m wide, especially Krone as it's built heavy.

I have a 1355 that was inherited it's a great mower and will cut anything no matter how fast you go but it is just not wide enough for a 130 hp tractor.1365 would be better.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I’m waiting for a price on a new Krone 2801. It’s not going to be I know cheap 😁. Krone seemed to have such good reviews both mounted and trailed.

a 10ft in ni is 16/7500 plus vat from memory priced earlier in season. they do fit in anywhere the older 283 does and so rarely any new 9ft sold here now.

Claas not an option?

I'm onto my second mounted 3m it goes on 4cyl and 6cyl and both handle it well. It's well built but not as heavy as the others . Follows the groung better than any kuhn trailed I've had and doesn't have the weight pushing you around on hills. I'm cutting stuff steep enough for a 3m trailed to jackknife you round on a damp day .

Trailed claas the centre tow will be very good the ordinary trailed is shite

Roughly how much is a class mounted with conditioner? Lookin a new mower either next year or the following year and claas seems to be the favourite opinion iv been hearing. Mabe a 3200c i think is the model?
