Mower disks worn out

The disks on our Kuhn 303 mower have worn wafer thin and now they have all cracked from behind the blade holder towards the middle.

Are these a wearing part?

Those who are re building mower beds etc, are you still on the original set of disks?

I don't know whether to spend the £600+ on the new disks or just think the mower has done literally 10's of thousands of acres with not a penny spent on it, if the disks are like that the internals must be getting that way too so chop it in for another one.

I don't want to spend the money on it for the bed to go bang within a short time. In my experience once a bearing has let go in a mower bed, they're never the same again.

BUT if I can change them and get another few years out of it all the better.

I've been quoted 4 times that from main dealer. Do you have a source at that price? Only 6 discs. At the price you're talking it's a no brainer.

I could have helped you untill a few days ago, but have lost my trade account due to local dealers , never realised there is so much protectionism and politics in our supply system. So it's back to rip off britain! No ,not for me, just realise there is a huge mark up in parts etc, offer them less, and if they dont play ball, try someone else. I wasnt ready to do the engineering, parts supply buisness full time yet,due to the farm, but in a yeasr time, i will be back, with some competitive prices.

That's a shame. I tried main dealer and my local parts supplier, there was almost £100 difference between JD genuine and non genuine, non gen still way out on price. Never mind, money crows on trees!! I'll keep looking.

If its not urgent, Google is your best friend, get the correct part number, buy it from abroad even, on principal ,rather than line the greedy fat cats pockets here.
The sad thing is,the UK dealers aren't being greedy, they need a huge mark up on these items to stay in business.

Was around £140 for a disc for a FC300 Kuhn last week, think it was discounted by about £20.
I see Kramp do them at about £100, but there was.questionmarks if it would fit my machine.

Just had to replace the wide angle PTO joint on my Welger baler, that caused a severe intake of breath.[emoji22]

The sad thing is that farmers need a huge mark up on their produce, which will never come?? Ok if someone can afford a £ 100k tractor, who cares if he has to pay for servicing and repairs. But what about that 20 yr old mower, that keeps going evry year, maybe only worth £400, if he can get some reasonable price parts, then it will do another few years. The industry needs a shake up, how much time and money does it cost to click and order parts online, they get delivered to the customer, he / she has paid by direct transfer. £30 would be plenty for a few mins work, actually sounds like heaven to beef farmer. And so what if the dealers have to keep their posh new vehicles a year longer, not many of us farmers with mud on our boots will care!
