MTD / Quickbooks - HMRC blocked?

I've done the VAT via QB to HMRC for over a year now, and no problems.(except extra faff)
This month's return, HMRC apparently doesn't recognise me and I can't submit it.
The QB page says I'm VAT enabled, the VAT number is correct, but HMRC apparently says no.

Anyone else had this problem?

I've been in touch with HMRC this morning, and they are doing 'maintenance. Their site has been down for 48 hours at least.
It would have been helpful to have known that, instead of a big red asterisk with links which imply it's my fault or QB.

QuickBooks is rubbish IMO,i was using it last year and abandoned it mid year after countless episodes like this.Im using Freeagent now,i was going to do the VAT on sunday,i simply had a message to say the times it would be unavailable.

That's disappointing. I had words with the chap at HMRC as to why no notice of the shut down on QB MTD platform. No answer to that one. It certainly cost me several hours of extra faff trying to work out why I couldn't connect.
Accountant likes QB. But I bought it, so could change.

My accountant recommended QuickBooks (and sold it to me) and charged me to set it all up,and for help sorting issues.Bank manager said try Freeagent as its free for RBS customers,i set it up on my own without problem, and there is a free helpline if you are struggling. It is SO simple after QB.Things like contras for livestock sales are a nightmare onQB,even my accountant had to ask.Cant recommend Freeagent highly enough.

Thanks. Our ex accountant was on that tack too. ( He would supply it, blah, blah)
Nope. I bought it and when I found he’d had a tweak without my permission, I deleted him. Hence him being an ex.
I’ll have a look at FreeAgent though. ?

@matthew are you registered for MTD and doing it through that portal? I’ve been using QB for 8 years, and have been filing VAT online via the desktop program. I haven’t registered for MTD yet, as it still seems to work on the old system.

I suppose they’ll close that door one day and I’ll have to pay for a subscription instead. Is that what’s happened now?

Yes. I bought and used QB almost two years ago, to practise on. I’m a slow learner. I registered for MTD a year ago and submitted via that portal from March 2019. Cost was £9 per month plus VAT for the honeymoon period. Now £20 plus VAT.
Very irritating that QB had no warning notice re the HMRC shut down though.

Thanks, so it’s the MTD portal that’s shut down then?

I wonder if it’s just for QB, or for other software using MTD too?

Apparently off line from Saturday evening until last night. 48 hours. But nothing on QB to indicate that. I was trying to post the claim through on Sunday.
@balerman said his platform had details of the shut down and it’s time out.
