Muck spreader chains to loose?

Hey guys , am new to this ,, but I am looking for some help , I just purchased a second hand Zetor RUR 55 dung spreader ,, everything works ok , but one set of chains keeps coming slack , then coming off the kogs ,, can I run it empty, or do I need to load it up first , before turning on the chains on the floor ,, ?? Do I need weight on the chains to keep them tight and in place ,, Don’t want want to try it with load in it , then chain comes off ,, then left with load in it ,, how do I tension the chain , and keep tight ,, thank you ,,
