Muck spreader flails slurry plates

I've got hod of a small, linkage mounted muck spreader.

At the moment I'm putting horse muck through it that is so well rotted its like compost! In future I'll be putting rotted muck through it but not that well rotted.

The flails on the spreader have got slurry plates on them and the compost/ muck gets shot straight out and lands in a heap rather than spreads.

Question: should I take the current chains off and use plain chain (no foot) for the compost and save the current flails for the less well rotted muck - or take (grind) off the slurry plates on the current flails and use them (with the boot) for both compost and muck.....

Don't do either. Leave the machine intact and alter the spread rate by adjustment to ground speed, PTO speed etc.
