That’s my concern...mastitis and black bag. Will be sticking with the woolly variety for the foreseeable. Bald lambs are no use either
We have seen no difference in mastitis in our easycares/Exlanas compared to mule and Texel crosses this year.
Pure lambs have also been Hardy in the cold.
Most have shed their wool and are milking well in a chilly Weardale.

Our numbers aren't massive but we also haven't had any greater problems with mastitis with our Easycares over our previous flock of Tex crosses.

The lambs come out very well covered and haven't seemed to suffer unduly in the cold spring.

years ago we had cheviots and halfbreds which cast a fair bit of their wool. it was a damn nuisance in the fields getting picked up in the hay or silage and still in the grass a couple of years after.

We have a bit of wool lying in the fields at the moment but it doesn't last long. Birds take a lot for their nests, some will rot away. It's certainly not about in any quantity a few weeks later. More noticeable when a woolly sheep casts its fleece maybe?
