Mulika spring wheat

How did it perform this year? Paragon has done well locally, but this looks a step ahead on paper.

I have a small acreage planned this year, with more the following year, if anyone has info on proteins, hag, bushel and yield it would be appreciated. Also saleability in the grp 1 slot.

many thanks

I grew 90 acres last year, was very impressed with it, looked lovely all year, sold 184t all went for milling although I think proteins were low'ish for Group 1 (I must add I am a feed wheat grower not a milling grower, so did nothing any different to the norm). Bushel was between 73-76, lovely sample.
I do feel however that it would have yielded better had I sorted some compaction out in one heavy clay field, this certainly reduced the average overall. I have 80 acres I plan to plant this Spring with it. Cheap to grow.

Got on well with 100 acres this spring, yields 2.5 t upwards .Went in direct with our KV Tineseeder in early April and gave it 180Kg/ha in two splits, no foliar used on ear.Didnt use alot of fungicide, 2 x Opus/Bravo mix T1 and 2, bit of Folicur on the ear IIRC.Watch lodging, ours went down in places as no PGR used.Harvest was last week in August, preceding winter rape:nailbiting:
Proteins over 13%, Hagberg and sp weight all GP 1 spec. Sold some at £185 for Jan. Will grow a bit this spring most likely.Best thing was, we didn,t need a single slug pellet!

Yes we got 2.3 tonnes per acre, looked really good all the way through, but it did have small ears unlike the belvoir which was drilled the same week ( approx) 20th April and looked not as good but went on to yield 2.9 tonnes per acre. Pleased with both.

Had 120 acres this year ,not drilled till 2nd wk April, 180kg/n T1,T2 and a cheap earwash. all 2nd or more wheats averaged 2.3t/acre one small 1st wheat field did 3.5t/acre 140kg/n . Not cut till 1st week sept , Hagbergs 350,s Bushels 76+ ,Proteins 12,5-13% , couple loads gone at grp 1 spec albeit with knock for protein ,all the merchants I deal with have ready homes for it , was also offered £185 for Jan

Just wondering how Mulika performed this year, having a bit of a major rethink on spring barley,by the look of it I can drill it from Nov onwards so would fit in nicely after sugar beet and drill it on some bad bg ground in spring if I don't get chance to drill it over winter.

Average yield was 2.1t acre although one 21acre field bought the average down from 2.6t, poor land rented away from home. Tested at 12.7% protein, 76 bushel. Gone at £160t. Fairly pleased with it although none planned this year at the moment!

This was our second year on Mulika after Paragon, very happy with it yet again, 3.12 t/ac this year, protein 12.7 in one field, 13.6 in the other and good bushels as always. It's followed Invicta after rape both years, although the 13.6 protein field was after sprouts this year, but was only 20 acres.

Good. Varied from 2.5t/ac to 3.4t/ac with an average of just over 3t/ac. 14-14.8% pro, 79 bushel, 380 hag at 16% moisture. Sample not good though as we couldn't thrash it all out properly. Towards the end of the harvest we started to loose heads on the floor so couldn't wait any longer.

Yield maps show higher yields with higher seed rates so this spring we will be going in at 300kg/ha minimum. It tillered well last year but come harvest we felt there wasn't enough plants except in the horrible soil areas that were double drilled due to soil conditions at drilling.

1 x herbicide
1 x fungicide with growth reg
1 x fungicide with manganese
160 (might be 180 need to check) kg/ha N

Done.

Found the same, did one half of a field at 280kg and other at 220kg (I cocked up calibration!!) and higher seed rate yielded better. We had circa 2.8t/ac (sold for Nov movement so will know the final scores on the doors then) but the crop had very little done to it, not sure the ex agronomist knew it had been planted!
All made Group 1 and sold forward (feed + premium) I suspect it'll be the most profitable crop on the farm this year, decent amount of straw (although no PRG applied, it was on the lean and a tad flat in places)
I like it, it was my second year with it and it certainly will feature in future cropping.

What drilling date and what type of soil, the thrashing problem was it the year or is that normal please

To all you growers, when did you start drilling Mulika, got it down to 2 varieties Xi19 been the other which they say you can drill till March ,which I think is pushing it a bit.
Do you all think if it had been drilled in say November with a lighter seed rate it would have tillered more?
I only ask because my heathland can be drilled just about any time of the year.

I think it would perform as a late sown WW, wouldn't be sure re seed rate though.
We started drilling here March time.
We also had the thrashing issue this year, it had no pre harvest glyphosate this year but last year we did give it some and had no problem, so maybe it was just the year?
I think some of the thrashing issues for us were to do with the lower tillers, we did not apply any PRG and there appeared almost a two tiered crop, we just wound the drum speed up as high as it would go and whacked it through the seed cleaner.

We had xi19 as well drilled in December which yielded 3.5t/ac but only made 12.5 protein spec and it had a lot more herbicides.

Mulika was planted 3rd week in March but the reason we like it is because it could be planted from October onwards. The bit that was double seeded was down in mid April so that's a big sowing window which also ticks the 3 cropping rule even though it's the same variety.

Got 150-230ac planned this year all spring sown though.
