Can even add additive to straw like do with silage ?When we made small bales for hoss trade we applied proprionic acid and acetic acid in damper conditions to help reduce moulds. It was expensive and needed higher rates than on the tin to make a difference. If some customers knew it had been added they would not buy the hay
Yes, you can bale straw or hay up to 30%. Used to stop it heating up and getting blocks of mould that are like pieces of wood in the bale. Personally never baled with additive. In my view if its to wet to bale then it is to wet. .Can even add additive to straw like do with silage ?
How's @MBC getting on?
You must take to the stage with jokes like that ,baling straw is a mugs gameBy the amount of square balers running about both old and new straw must be making money again.
Just because it doesn’t suit you that’s a very poor attitude to have you get a baler in good big fields behind a 30ft header be the best money you will earn with a baler!!!You must take to the stage with jokes like that ,baling straw is a mugs game
I’d imagine a lot of big outfits who are behind with harvest will be chopping from now on. Baling days are getting a lot shorter in duration as wet ground means balers will be stopped by dew before combines, more compaction due to wetter conditions.
if its dry choppers will be on if its wet choppers will be on if no livestock on farm.Doubt there will be much if any straw baled without it already been sold from now onIf ever we needed a dry week its next , could make or break the job
Do they grow lot of spuds to?The surname certainly starts W
And how many days must you wait for that one to come along?Just because it doesn’t suit you that’s a very poor attitude to have you get a baler in good big fields behind a 30ft header be the best money you will earn with a baler!!!
that's why we buy our own balers cos all the contractors want is big fields and big swaths ,not us smaller farmersJust because it doesn’t suit you that’s a very poor attitude to have you get a baler in good big fields behind a 30ft header be the best money you will earn with a baler!!!
The bother with most contracting job is that its priced to make a margin on the reasonable sized jobs in reasonable sized fields in reasonable conditions, but when you have small/steep/littered with poles/ awkward shaped fields the farmer feels he should still be paying the rate for the nice jobs.that's why we buy our own balers cos all the contractors want is big fields and big swaths ,not us smaller farmers
wouldnt disagree with your 3 jobs other than to qualify the baling contractor and change it to small bale physical handler ,That tiny switch on the combine dashboard for the chopper probably has more impact on work and hassle than any other control on the farm.
It's with reluctance that I turn it off, but we too need straw for the livestock, so sometimes we turn it off and pray.
We have been "lucky" this year. 36 cardboardy spring barley bales straight behind the combine and 500 small spring barley bales a day later that were reasonable. If we had left the round bales stuff we would be chopping it by now.
A difficult year even here, though I appreciate others have had it much much worse.
There are three jobs id never want.
Sheep shearing
Straw baling contractor
Tyre fitter
Respect to those that do them.
