MXU115 brakes

We are lucky enough to have just got a s/h MXU115 with about 6k hours on the clock, previously been used for spraying/top dressing etc.

The thing that strikes me is the sheer effort needed to use the brakes compared to our 5130 (or in fact the other Cases here), the first stroke is a real effort and like pushing the oil out from between the plates - it will stop the tractor, but then the second stroke seems to bring them on as I would expect. Are they normally hard on the leg or should they lock up easily?
I have drained the oil out and it was clean no filings or signs of brake material there or in the filters......now thinking about pulling the axle housings off. I'm well aware that linings can wear and they need to be checked but just wondered if these symptoms sounded familiar to anyone

thanks

I’ve done brakes on a couple of ford 10 series tractors in the past that were no use due to driver error. The brakes were still not worn out just glazed over and hardened probably due to a driver or drivers sitting with the brake on down a bank with a heavy load on constantly instead of dabbing to let the oil back in between the plates. A careful driver can eventually get these type of issues sorted out again if the tractor is for field work but this is no use if you need the tractor for road work.
Other than that it could be brake cylinders sticking or stiff more than likley

I pulled the left side off today, no significant wear, the disc is 10mm thick........do the linings just go hard or something else i need to look at?

Definitely LHM!!!! My mxu got topped up with DOT 4 by mistake(not by me) and after a few hours it started doing all sorts of weird things. For no reason the trailer brakes would come on or while traveling down the road the tractor brakes would lock on all by themselves and send you through the windscreen.

New master cylinders and flushing the system out cured it, luckily I didn't have to touch any internals.
